Spring Lecture Series 2010

The 2nd in our series was a musical presentation by Buddy Ferguson and Harold Harton. These 2 long time friends thoroughly entertained the crowd with songs and stories about country western music from primarily from the 1930 to mid 1950’s with some early 1900’s songs added to the mix.

Buddy and Harold attended elementary school in Briggs many years ago and were involved , along with their parents, in a large group of musicians who gathered regularly and called themselves the Hayloft Gang. Over the years the 2 friends only saw each other occasionally until Buddy moved back into the Mahomet area and they renewed their friendship and love of music.

Their presentation included instrumentals, ballads and just plain fun songs that had every toe  in the place tappin’ .  Their love of the music and deep friendship just lights up the stage.  Harold plays a 4 string tenor guitar and has an exceptional voice for someone in their mid 8o’s. Buddy plays a 1965 Gibson Birdland guitar that produces unbelievably sweet sounds. It’s easy to understand why he’s been elected into 7 Western Music Halls of Fame. They will be back to play more music with some friends on Mar.2nd and it sure to be a treat.

Our series continues next Tues. @6:30 with a talk on raised bed gardening to be presented by representatives of the  county Extension Agency. It’s sure to be another good un’  .      jake
